Museo Del Prado
This is possibly the most important museum in Madrid. We can see works by great artists such as Goya, Velázquez, Del Bosco and many more.
It has the largest collection of Spanish paintings in the world. It opened its doors for the first time on 19 November 1819.
Museo Reina Sofía
This museum is located in a neoclassical building in Atocha, which previously served as a hospital. It has two other venues in Madrid; the Palacio de Cristal and the Palacio de Velázquez, located in the Retiro Park.
Here you will find works such as «Guernica», one of the most important paintings by the Spanish painter, Picasso.
Museo Thyssen Bornemisza
More than a thousand works of art can be found in this museum located on the Paseo del Arte. It has a collection based on European painting from the Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century.
Museo Naval
Attached to the Ministry of Defence under the organic dependence of the Admiral Chief of the Naval General Staff, it shares its headquarters with the Spanish Navy Headquarters.
Museo del Ferrocarril
In the old Delicias station we find this museum where we can find a collection of historical railway material.
It was inaugurated in 1984 and houses the Historical Railway Archive and the Railway Library and Newspaper Library.
El Museo Arqueológico Nacional
In the Salamanca neighbourhood you will find this museum with Greek ceramics, Visigothic votive crowns and Hispano-Muslim ivories.
This institution, founded in 1867, conserves one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world. This is why it is one of the most important museums in Madrid.
