A day in Firgas

A day in Firgas

Today we suggest you spend a day in one of the most charming villages of Gran Canaria, Firgas, also known as «La Villa del Agua».

It is one of the smallest municipalities on the island of Gran Canaria, with its historic centre full of picturesque streets and a very photogenic fountain, which captivates everyone who visits it. For this reason, it is an essential place to visit in Gran Canaria, as it has so much to offer.

Breakfast at Dulcería El Molino

This sweet shop is hidden in the historic centre of the town, where you can start the day by delighting your palate with one of the many delicious sweets on offer. Without a doubt a good way to start a day full of visits to this marvellous town.

Route through the Azuaje Ravine

A 15-minute drive from the village you can enter this green space full of diverse and autochthonous nature, whose complete route is 8.5 km long and has options for both expert and beginner hikers, who can pass through the Balneario de Azuaje, a historical site from which the simplest route of this trail begins.

Lunch at "El rincón de Marcos".

Once you start to get hungry again, it’s time for lunch at this popular restaurant in Firgas. They specialise in watercress, using it in several of their dishes such as watercress salad, melted watercress cheese and even a watercress dessert, which will help you replenish your batteries from the trail.

Visit to the old town

We continue the day visiting emblematic places that are concentrated in the historic centre. Firstly, it is essential to see the Paseo de Gran Canaria, a unique street with a 30-metre waterfall fountain in its centre, adorned on its sides with 22 benches of Andalusian tiles representing the 21 municipalities of the island.

Next to the promenade, you will find the Avenida de Canarias, which shows each island of the archipelago in relief and decorated in mosaics.

We continue walking until we reach a 16th century gofio mill, which can be visited free of charge. There is nothing more Canarian than gofio, and what better than to see where it is made, as the mill is still in operation today.

Sunset at the Plaza de San Roque Viewpoint

A final touch to this day is to enjoy the panoramic views offered by this «Mirador del Atlántico», towards part of the north coast of the island or the mountain of Arucas.

This viewpoint is located in the Plaza de San Roque, where you will also find the Church of San Roque and the Town Hall, so there is no better way to end this tour of «La Villa del Agua».

You can discover this and other charming villages of Gran Canaria with the excursion ‘Landscapes of Gran Canaria’.
