Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands, making it an incredible place to visit by bike. Today we bring you some of the best cycling routes in Tenerife so you can enjoy the island in a different way.
The start of this route will take place in the Teide National Park. During our descent towards Puerto De la Cruz we will see incredible landscapes of craters, volcanoes and rivers of petrified lava surrounding the impressive silhouette of the volcano.
Then, we will go to the El Portillo Visitor Centre for about 7km until we enter what will be our dirt trail. In this way, we will leave Teide and descend a slope.
We continue the descent through the Orotava Valley, an ecological and spectacular space fused between the green palm groves, the dark volcanic earth and the blue of the ocean. And this is where this route ends with our return to Puerto de la Cruz. One of the best cycling routes.
But the truth is that there are many routes that have the Teide as a protagonist, like this one we propose you: Road Cycling Tenerife – Teide.
We start our route from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to San Andrés. Here we take a diversion to Taganana, where we have an 8 km climb with a short break in the middle.
At the 15th kilometre of the ascent there is a short descent to Casas de la Cumbre. Then there are 3-4 km more of ascent to Pico del Inglés. The descent will start passing Cruz del Cármen, Monte de Las Mercedes, Las Canteras until we reach La Laguna, our destination.
Garachico is the starting and finishing point of this route. During 54km we will be able to see different localities such as Erjos, Santiago del Teide or Buenavista.
On our way we will enjoy different landscapes that will make our pedalling much more enjoyable. It is not a very complicated route, although the accumulated ascent is more than 1500 metres and the gradient remains at around 6%, so there may be points where the difficulty is quite high.
The Anaga Rural Park is a great place for sports lovers in general. It is a protected natural area declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Starting from the beach of Las Teresitas, we will start ascending on our route for 11km until we reach El Bailadero. Once here, we can enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley and the cliffs.
From here we will start descending towards Chamorga through a pleasant path immersed in the «Laurisilva» forest. Once here, we will return by the same road to «Bailadero» from where we will descend to the beach of Benijo.
Then, we will return 6km uphill to Bailadero and take the road that leads to Pico del Inglés. Finally, we will go down the same road to the beach of Las Teresitas, our starting point.
