It is the largest of the Canary Island Parks as well as being one of the oldest. Its peak reaches a height of 3,718 metres, making it the highest in Spain. It is located right in the centre of the island with a surface area of 190 km2, on an ancient and gigantic volcanic caldera with a perimeter of 45 kilometres, an immense depression known as the Cañadas del Teide.
During your visit you can enjoy unique landscapes created by nature such as craters, volcanoes and rivers of petrified lava. We can even find accommodation; Las Cañadas del Teide National Park and the Altavista Refuge at an altitude of 3,270 metres.
Teide and Las Cañadas had a spiritual significance for the Guanches, as it was a fundamental area for their survival, especially in summer. Archaeological sites provide the best record of the history of the first settlers on Tenerife.
The settlement of the fauna is limited by its volcanic and climatic characteristics. The Park has some 5 species and 36 subspecies, some of them endemic, such as tits and gnatcatchers.
